Landing a Job in Yachting
Landing your first job in yachting can be a little tricky at times so we at Cotton Crews wanted to share a few tips on how to get hired.
Tip 1
Our first tip would be to make sure you have a well-developed and organized CV. If you are unsure that your CV is up to par take a look at our blog “Our Guide to a Stand Out CV.” This article tells you exactly the format and content that is necessary to create your best possible CV.
Tip 2
When looking to get hired, day working for a program is a great way to get your foot in the door. For more information about day work and how to find it take a look at our blog “Daywork 101”.
Tip 3
Lastly, protect your reputation. The yachting industry is a VERY small industry and word travels fast. In order to land your dream job it is crucial that all of your references check out and to be smart about what is posted on social media accounts.
A great addition to your CV is a short video (approximately 3 minutes long) introducing yourself and why you think you can be a great addition to any program or crew. This video is a great way to set you apart from another CV’s and a chance to leave a lasting first impression on a captain. You can get creative with it but always stay professional.
